Seventeen-year old Sarah’s life is turned upside down when her single mom is sent to jail. She’s forced to move, leaving behind everything she’s ever known, including her best friend Sydney. Lost and bitter in a new school, her one goal is to save money and move back home. Then she meets Angel Moreno.
Enigmatic but gorgeous, Angel is almost too good to be true. Except for one thing, his archaic belief that guys and girls can never be “just friends”. The problem? Sarah’s best friend Sydney is not a girl.
With their unexpected romance intensifying to places neither ever experienced, how long can Sarah keep Angel in the dark about the guy waiting for her back home. (summary from goodreads.com)
When I first read the summary of this book I thought... "okay, this seems a lot like Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles" and while their characters do share some similarities the two books are completely different from each other.
The plot in this story was predictable. I don’t want to go into details, but by reading the synopsis you can get a fairly good idea of what’s going to happen. Normally that would bother me to no ends, but with this book? I completely overlooked that fact. I think it was because of the incredibly adorable romance that was going on. My only complaint would have to be the climax of the story. I knew this was going to happen, but why did the characters have to react that way? 1/4 of this book could have been avoided had things just been discussed. But, OH WELL.
The characters in this book were great, but I did have a few problems with them. Sarah was so incredibly naive. There was a point in this book where she was warned not to something, but she completely ignored the warning and went ahead to do something that could end up with her being her. And then there was Angel... oh geez. Overprotective much? On their own, I didn’t care for these characters, but together... I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM.
Angel and Sarah’s relationship progressed much too quickly for my liking and I was having a hard time imagining them being “exclusive” after such a short amount of time. But after they’d been dating awhile and you get a chance to see them together, you’ll see that they are perfect for eachother. They honestly bring out the best in each other.
In all honesty, there wasn't much to this book other than the romance... And surprisingly enough, I was okay with that. I usually like my books to be about some bigger more serious topic and then have the romance (if any) as a side plot, so this book was a nice change of pace.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute romance to read! This book does deal with some more mature topics, so I’d probably classify it as a New Adult book with characters aged around the YA genre... (I really hope that makes sense) Fans of books like Slammed, The Vincent Boys, and Double Clutch will definitely enjoy this book. And I know my feelings were all over the place in this review, so I’d like to clarify that I really did enjoy this book.

Does this book sound good?
What do you think of books that mainly feature romance?

Oh my gawd - what a cute cover. Sounds like a fairly typical contemp YA romance but ahh....sometimes those are fun anyway.
ReplyDeleteI might add this one to the TBR pile when I'm looking for something quick to read.
