Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way. . . Luce is certain that something—or someone—in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime . . . going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel . . . and finally unlock the key to making their love last. Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history. Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever. (summary from goodreads.com)
Passion is the third book in the Fallen series by Lauren Kate, and I have to admit that this book was my favorite in the series. Lauren Kate definitely upped the stakes with this book! After two books we finally get to have a look into Daniel and Luce’s past. I can’t even tell explain to you how happy I was to finally understand some of what’s been happening in this series.
The writing in this book was great and was probably my favorite part of this book. Luce is trying to figure out if her and Daniel are meant to be, so she goes back in time to see her past lives fall in love with Daniel in hopes of understanding. It sounds a little confusing, but it really isn’t! I loved that Lauren Kate was able to give each past life that Luce visits a completely different feel. Nothing about any two were the same... except for the whole Luce and Daniel aspect. The only thing I didn’t like was the pacing. While it was set at a faster pace than the first two books, it was still considerable slow. Then right when the story picked up... the book ended. (MOST FRUSTRATING THING EVER)
I really admired what Luce was trying to do in taking some initiative with finding out about her and Daniels past, but I think she could have done it in a better way. I won’t say too much, but she definitely grew in this book. She saw that maybe she had been acting selfishly in thinking she was the only one suffering because of her and Daniel’s curse. The only thing I disliked about Luce in this book was how dense she was. There was this one character who she really should have questioned why he was helping her, but she didn’t. In the end it worked out for her, but it just frustrated me so much throughout the course of the book.
This book gave us a look into what Daniel’s been thinking throughout the whole series. It’s told in both Daniel and Luce’s POV’s, so we get a pretty good amount of Daniel time even though they aren’t technically together during this book. I have a whole new respect for Daniel because I was finally able to see what was going through his head, and why he did the things he did.
The romance in this series is one that I didn’t fully understand in the first two books, so I doubted that Daniel and Luce actually loved each other. I’m glad to say that after reading this book I FINALLY understand what everyone's been going on about. It’s mainly due to Daniel because honestly I’m not a huge Luce fan.... In this book you get to see how Daniel loses Luce's time and time again, but never loses hope which is a pretty admirable thing. Anyone who doubts Daniel and Luce’s relationship needs to read this book because hopefully you’ll understand it like I did.
Something I didn’t like about this book was the lack of secondary characters. They were such an important part of the series, and in this book they kind of fell out of the picture. I know it was necessary for the overall story development, but it annoyed me. There was a new character addition in this book, and his name was Bill. He was really suspicious and I think everyone that read this book predicted who he really was, but somehow Luce didn’t.. I really enjoyed his character, I’m not saying I liked him, it’s just he brought a sense of humor to the book and without him the story may have been boring
Passion is a great book and fans of the Fallen series definitely won’t be disappointed. I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, Rapture. Hopefully it’ll be epic? And maybe Daniel and Luce will get their happy ending.
