Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol' dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she's sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage Watson. Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there. Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out.... there’s no other choice. (Summary from goodreads.com)

Because of Low is the second book in the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines. While the first book in the series Breathe was really good and I liked it. I have to admit that Because of Low was amazing, and I loved it! This might be due to the fact that I completely and totally love Marcus Hardy, but I could be wrong. In all honesty you can skip book one, and not miss anything except for a few minor details. There’s really not that much tying the two books together.

After reading a few of Abbi Glines' books, I've started to notice a particular style in her contemporary books and while that would normally annoy me it doesn't in this case. Because of Low could be classified as YA Contemporary Romance, but with all the mentions of real life situations you won't even notice. Well you will, but with all the heavy topics it's not overwhelming. Actually, I'm kind of lying. The romance in this book is seriously incredible, like epic. Compared to the first book in the series, Breathe this book was a lot more mature and I mean A LOT.

Marcus Hardy is so freaking amazing it's a little bit unnerving. In Breathe I was totally rooting for him the whole time and when things didn't work out for him in the end I was a little disappointed, but when I found out this book was about him I was SO happy! Okay, so he's basically this amazingly sweet guy who wears his heart on his sleeve, but at the same time has some issues that he needs to deal with. He did a few questionable things, but they were pretty understandable given the circumstances. Then there's Low. She's had a pretty hard life so far, what with being left her whole life, and having to worry about where she's going to sleep on the nights her sister won't let her stay over. Despite all the bad things that happen to her she's still a pretty amazing person. She's forgiving, honest, and nice. I really admired her as a person because she was just so nice! And then when Marcus comes into the picture she doesn't want to let him in, but when she does it's pretty amazing. Those two are seriously perfect for each other!

I absolutely loved how Marcus and Low's relationship was written! Neither of them have the best families, so their hesitant to open up with one another. But when they do open up to each other, it's amazing! Marcus and Low have some of the best chemistry that I've read about in a while. There was this one part towards the end of the book that had me so angry! I was like "Seriously! You've gone through all of this and you're not even going to hear each other out!?" (those of you who've read the book know what I'm talking about).

Overall this was a pretty great story! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a book in the New Adult genre. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost 100% sure that's what people are calling it... Anyways it's a great story and the ending was AMAZING. I can't wait for the next installment in the Sea Breeze series which follows the story of Low's best friend, Cage. I'm pretty sure it's going to be epic.

I am reading The Vincent Boys by Abbie Glines at the moment and it's been really good so far. The Sea Breeze series looks like a great YA contemp series by Abbie Glines too! I cannot wait to check it out. Low sounds fascinating and I wonder what will make Marcus have to choose between his family and Low! Amazing review, Tabitha :)
